And our trip comes to an end

Dear friends,
205 days ago we left San Francisco on our journey around the world, From Giraffes to Kangaroos. We now sit again in our favorite neighborhood of “The City,” reflecting on what was an incredible whirlwind 29.3 weeks.

Many of you have asked what our favorite part of the trip was. Of course it is hard to choose favorites, but here are some of our top picks.

Favorite country to visit: Turkey. With its combination of fantastic culture, jaw-dropping Greek and Roman ruins, delicious food, and gorgeous beaches, Turkey has a little something for everyone. To top it off, it is incredibly easy to travel around—it is safe, the roads are good, and the bus system is very reliable. (Click here for our best pictures)

Most incredible sight: Serengeti National Park, Tanzania. Experiencing driving through the savannah with its endless sky, spotting lions and other gorgeous creatures in their native habitat was life-changing.

Best place to get a tan: Paje Beach, Zanzibar, Tanzania. The water was a perfect turquoise, the sand was white and finer than corn starch, there was not a cloud in the sky, and it was (almost) all ours! Need we say more?

Places we would live in a heartbeat: Melbourne and Sydney, Australia. Despite the fact that they are in the middle of nowhere, Melbourne and Sydney are unbeatable cosmopolitan environments. They are very environmentaly-conscious, their produce is fresh and delicious, they have a great café-culture, and their residents are healthy and active. In other words , they have all the perks of San Francisco without the grime. We didn’t want to leave!

And now we’re back. We will be spending the summer living in the Mission District and working at our former employers. Our next move is to graduate school at the end of August; David will be moving to Chicago and Tanya to Boston, so please be in touch if you are ever in those fine cities!
