Hello!
We write you from the ultra-modern Terminal 3 at Changi Airport in Singapore, where internet is free, hot chocolate abounds, and the government reads our every word. We are in the last hours of our roughly two-month stint in Southeast Asia, heading for Sydney on the overnight plane.
The past week we have travelled from Northern Thailand down to Singapore. In Chiang Mai, in the North of Thailand, we had the amazing experience of learning how to cook six Thai dishes including Pad Thai, curry, and spring rolls. It's easier than you think, and we look forward to cooking you all a dish when we next see you! Other than the cooking class, we wandered the streets of Chiang Mai, opting not to go on another trek after the one in Chiang Rai. Unfortunately, after enjoying the intimate feel of Chiang Rai, we found the large, highly-trafficked Chiang Mai a bit disappointing.
We took the eight hour train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok during the day in order to appreciate the scenery and were thrilled by the shifting jungles, rice fields and small towns we encountered. Arriving in Bangkok exhausted from our last couple of months, we decided to treat ourselves to a couple of fancy nights at the local Sheraton (again thanks to Tanya's sweat-tears-and-blood-earned Starwood points). With a down-right jaw-dropping view of the river and city, our room was spectacular and our recovery began.
We spent the last couple of days in Singapore with Tanya's family continuing to spoil us in their beautiful home. Rested, excited, and ready for our next continent, we await our plane.
We will write you all from Sydney!
